Cup Victory

Having lost last year to Purnell in the league last year we were expecting a tough first round cup match. The first surprise of the night was that cup rules were in fact 8 a side so we had three too many players!

In a demonstration of the good nature and team spirit that makes the Griffins an even better group of players than even their combined talent would suggest, six boys quickly volunteered to play half a game each to save their rather embarrassed manager from an early season sacking. Thanks in particular go to Zachary for being one of those six despite it being his debut and to Purnell for allowing us to field different bowlers and batters.

The other surprise was how one-sided the game was with none of last year's opposition appeariong for Purnell. Following 8 a side rules (minus 5 for a wicket and a 200 score to start with) we manged to reduce their total to about 193 after 8 overs and we finished on something near to or over 300.

Samuel in his first game of the season was rewarded for his accurate bowling with three wickets (all clean bowled) and Charlie played really well as wicket-keeper allowing Fergus to turn his arm over and enjoy taking two wickets.
