On a Sunday of cloudy and overcast skies coupled with intermmitent downpours Lansdown and Barrow Gurney were both determined not to allow the weather disrupt their Sunday 2nd X1 match.
Barrow Gurney batted first on a slippy but playable wicket, Luke Gazzard seemingly unmoveable for his solid 42 in Gurney’s total of 175 in their 40 overs played at times during heavy showers. The home side let more runs than necessary accrue in the last five overs with a plethora of dropped catches and intelligent running between wickets from the batsmen denying Louis Mancini a five wicket haul. He ended with 4 for 22.
Lansdown’s innings was played through yet more rain, sometimes heavy, which had the effect of making quick singles difficult and they soon fell just behind on run-rate. Sam Avery on 42 and Sam Bowery (32) were their highest scorers as Gazzard started knocking down the wickets with 4 for 22.
With five overs to go and eight wickets down and the run rate now even, Mancini came in and despite accurate bowling from the visitors a mix of ones and twos with the occasional boundary took Lansdown home to win by 2 wickets with just two balls to go – Mancini picking up his second Man of the Match award this season from Papa Johns Pizzas.
