Having won the toss we elected to bat. Sam Costello opened with Archie Maggs. It was Archie's first game of senior cricket and he did really well on a very difficult pitch to get 13 runs off 28 balls. Sam got one of several golden ducks on Saturday, unfortunately. So did I. The pitch isn't exactly perfect for building a solid innings although Dave Hirst managed an excellent 33. Brynley Hurle got 20 and Gareth Adams who, with 15 off 20 balls proved that It was possible to score freely. We only managed 117 runs in our 30 overs.
Knowle had a few players who looked really good. Their opener Richard Griffin retired not out on 52.
Knowle didn't seem to mind batting on the pitch as much as we did and their captain informed me that it was actually in a better state than the pitch they normally play on which might explain their victory. We only took three wickets. Dave Hirst got one for 15. Chris Donavan got one for 12 and Ollie Humpfreys who was the pick of the bowlers and didn't bowl a bad ball all match got one wicket for six runs. Really well done Ollie. Fantastic performance.
It was actually closer than it sounded. They got the runs needed with only three overs to spare.
