Lansdown bowled first and took a few overs to settle into the game before Tom Henley struck, Alex Nathanson taking a sharp catch at second slip. There then followed a tight period of the game with their opening batsman and number three batting well. However, Lansdown were patient in the field whilst Sam Bowery and Louis Mancini kept it tight at either end, Sam taking two big wickets including a sharp caught and bowled opportunity. The last ten overs were when the fielding really came into it’s own, optimised by Danny Poole deliberately running in too far at Long On just so that he could leap backwards to take a stunning one handed catch.
With 193 to win, Danny Poole and Sam Athay set a very good platform and Lansdown were 97-1 at 20 overs. There then followed a tighter period in the game which lead to a mini batting collapse making things more interesting going into the last eight overs, however, Lansdown’s Junior Pro Noah Davis batted with a lot of maturity and, with the help of George “Mankad” Wood, helped to lead Lansdown home with two overs to spare.
A good team performance will lead to an exciting match against table toppers Hampset next week.
