Having won the toss and electing to bat, we knew it was going to be a tough first hour or so on a damp wicket. Clevedon bowled well and reduced us to 60-5, however Lansdown’s pro from Hampshire, James Fuller, stepped up and showed why he is a class above the rest, with a mature and at times, destructive innings of 62, to get Lansdown up to a below par, but competitive total of 158.

In reply we couldn’t have asked for a better start, removing the two openers in the first two overs. However, an 80-run partnership followed, which really took the game away from us. Again however, James Fuller returned to the attack to offer Lansdown a last throw of the dice, and produced a great spell of fast bowling - taking 3 wickets in quick succession to give us a real chance to turn the game around. Despite the boy’s fightback, a couple of errors in key moments cost us the game, with Clevedon getting over the line in the second last over. As a side we are so close to getting the results we know we can, but unfortunately we have been on the wrong side of three very close games. A big week training should put us in a good place for next week’s game, away at Chippenham.
