Bridgewater won the toss and elected to field. Despite losing the inform Jordan Smith early on, we score well throughout as Connor Brown continued to impress with another half-century at the top of the order – this time a measured 53 off 90 balls. With Oskar (45), new boy George Scott (33), and Tim Wyatt (25no) all contributing, a score of 214/6 felt like a very defendable total.
Bridgewater got off to a racing start in their reply though with openers Hallaran and Smeed scoring at well over a run a ball. It wasn’t until spinners Ashley Allen and Matt Thomas joined the attack did we wrestle some control back with both bowlers partnering well. Amongst that spell, a moment of brilliance from Jordan Smith with a catch over the boundary flicked up and taken for the second time inside the rope which seemed to signal real energy and intent by Lansdown.
Alas from there it was a case of a missed opportunities and energy levels seemingly dropping as Tom Lace in particular wrestled control for the batting side – wearing down the attack with an impressive 76 off 106 balls. Bridgwater ticked off 215 in 41 overs to solidify their early-season place at the top of Premier 1.
It’s been a couple of weeks of ‘so near but yet so far’ for Oskar’s boys against the in-form sides in the league. Much to be positive about but much still to learn for this young and exciting side. We still remain in good shape in 6th place.
