Having won the toss and electing to bat, we put on a near perfect batting display, scoring 294-5 in 45 overs. We saw a hundred of the highest quality scored by Connor Brown, showing his class. Despite batting in the unfamiliar no.4 spot, James Palmer followed up with a phenomenal display of brutal hitting and elegant stroke play - scoring a quickfire 66 off just 38 balls.
Josh Smith and Tim Wyatt, both returning from injury, then opened up the bowling and despite neither being close to their best, looked very threatening and both took key wickets - we can expect big things with the ball from both these lads this summer. We had all but had the game won after 19 overs, when a hail storm nearly stole the win away from us. However, with the weather clearing up, we managed to return to the pitch to complete the win. The game was made much tighter than it should have been by the introduction of Duckworth-Lewis reducing the innings to 28 overs, however under serious pressure, Ash Allen stood up and bowled a decisive 26th over to secure the win for Lansdown.
Oskar commented.
“It was a bit nervy towards the end of the game as the weather nearly robbed a certain victory, but full credit to the bowlers in finishing the job with maturity. It was brilliant to see James and Connor in that sort of form too – bodes well for the rest of the season”
We now look forward to our first home game vs Potterne and hopefully another win to put us right at the top of WEPL 1.
