Skipper Tom Hankins guided his Lansdown team to a fine win at a sunny County Ground on Sunday.
Batting first, Westlands were pinned down by some fine bowling particularly from Harry Veal taking his first wicket early in his first spell. The Yeovil team then dug in with a solid 49 from Keiron Boucher falling just short of his fifty after 38 balls and a quickfire 41 from Callum Gundry in 38 balls. Veal returned for a second spell towards the end of the innings taking another wicket and restricting the batsmen to odd singles in their total of 134.
Opening for Lansdown Hankins and Jordan Smith made a slow start, taking no chances. Westlands bowling attack was tight and accurate but once Hankins started hitting out the runs came and only came to a slowdown when Hankins was bowled for a fine 62 by a relieved Harry Boucher. Ben Marjon was then bowled the next ball leaving Boucher on a hat trick, denied him by a determined block from Jackson Hamilton. It was now Jordan Smith’s turn to start opening up which he did with some flair guiding Lansdown to the last over with two runs required. He achieved this with a measured four from the first ball, sending Lansdown’s supporters into a frenzy.
The Man of the Match award was presented to Harry Veal by John Davey from the Somerset Cricket Board for his bowling in two pivotal spells taking 2 – 9.
