The grey clouds over Combe Park for the MCC’s annual fixture against Lansdown descended low enough to cloud the visitor’s batting capabilities as MCC were scuttled out for a mere 117 in 32 overs. Only John Harvey put up any significant resistance, scoring 30 with extras being the next highest score with a surprising and, unusual for Lansdown, 18.
The home side’s reply started well despite some fast pace from MCC’s John Green and it wasn’t too long before he had skipper Tom Hankins caught behind for 11 following a huge six into the grounds of the RUH. There then followed a solid partnership from Andy Owen (34) and Daryn Lee Dorman scoring 49 not out as well as bagging the Papa John’s Pizzas man of the match award.
Speaking after the game MCC ‘s captain David Catlow expressed a certain disappointment but praised Lansdown for not only the win but the continuing hospitality offered, “Whenever we come here we are treated almost like royalty and the really important thing is that this club always acts within the Spirit of Cricket, something MCC seeks to promote throughout the world. For this match however, although both teams brought the spirit, my side forgot to bring their cricket!”
