Lansdown Cricket Club marked a historic moment on 1 July with a commemorative match against the Bristol Pakistanis

Lansdown Cricket Club marked a historic moment on 1 July with a commemorative match against the Bristol Pakistanis, celebrating the 1952 fixture that saw a Pakistan XI play its first overseas match—hosted by Lansdown.

In a touching tribute, Dan Veal captained the Lansdown XI, joined by his father Martin and his two brothers, honouring his grandfather Sid Veal, who led the original 1952 side. The day also brought personal joy, with congratulations to Dan and Freya on the arrival of baby Pippa—the newest member of the Veal cricketing legacy.

The event featured a special interview with former Pakistan captain Mushtaq Mohammad, conducted by Stephen Chalke, cricket historian, author, and a Vice President of the club.

Known for his engaging storytelling and deep knowledge of the game, Stephen guided a fascinating conversation that explored the early days of Pakistani cricket. The presence of Fred Rumsey added further richness to the discussion, and the reverence shown by the Bristol Pakistani players made the moment especially memorable.

The presentation of the original 1952 scorecard and team photograph—soon to be sent to the Pakistan Cricket Museum in Lahore—added historical significance to the day.

The match, played in great spirit by a mixed Lansdown 2nd and 3rd XI, capped off a day of celebration, reflection, and community—highlighting Lansdown’s proud heritage and ongoing commitment to cricket in Bath.
