Lansdown Walking Cricket Club welcomed Sussex-based Holbrook CC on 23 June for a memorable fixture that was believed to be the club's first match against opposition from outside the local area.
With temperatures soaring, the teams agreed to play a two-innings match to reduce the time spent fielding in the heat. In doing so, Lansdown believe they may have staged the first two-innings Walking Cricket match ever played in the UK.
After winning the toss, Holbrook chose to field on a wicket still recovering from heavy rain the previous evening. The game was played in a fantastic spirit throughout, with Lansdown building a first-innings advantage before holding on to secure victory.
Scores
Lansdown: 86-0 & 71-2
Holbrook: 70-3 & 78-2
Under Walking Cricket rules, five runs are deducted for every wicket lost, giving net scores of Lansdown 147 beat Holbrook 123 by 24 runs.
The day ended with both teams enjoying a well-earned drink together, reflecting on an excellent match and new friendships. Holbrook were wished well for the rest of their West Country tour, while the idea of a future Lansdown Walking Cricket tour also began to gather momentum.
