Lansdown Cricket Club celebrated its bicentenary in grand style by hosting the first-ever Walking Cricket Tournament at Combe Park on June 24, 2025. This event marked a significant milestone in the club's history and showcased the growing popularity of walking cricket.

The Walking Cricket Section, established in 2023 by David Dolman, an ex-Captain and President of the Club, has become a fully inclusive section that welcomes members of all abilities, disabilities, and genders. The section has seen remarkable growth, with members reporting improvements in both mental health and physical mobility since joining.

The tournament featured teams from Highbridge CC, Taunton CC, and Weston-Super-Mare CC, who braved the grey skies and rain to participate. The resilience of the players was rewarded as the weather cleared, providing perfect conditions for cricket.

The semi-final matches saw Highbridge CC defeat Taunton CC with a score of 72-1, while Lansdown CC triumphed over Weston-Super-Mare with a score of 119-2. In the afternoon, Taunton CC secured third place by beating Weston-Super-Mare 89-2. The final match was a thrilling contest, with Lansdown CC emerging victorious over Highbridge CC with a score of 83-3, winning the new Bicentenary Walking Cricket Cup.

Mustafa Shaikh of the Somerset Cricket Foundation expressed his gratitude to Lansdown CC for organising and hosting the event, hoping it would become an annual tradition. The success of the tournament was further bolstered by the generous sponsorship of Nova Vanguard, which will support the continued development of this important community project.

Lansdown Cricket Club's commitment to inclusivity and community engagement was evident throughout the tournament, and the club looks forward to many more years of promoting the joy of cricket to all.
